09/09/99: Letter from Jim
Hi Guys,
Here's the info we've all been waiting for. Coach Michael attended the
League meeting
Wednesday evening. He also has scheduled a practice before the game around
8:30AM-9:00AM. I'll have an updated phone list too. See ya there! Jim
"OK HERE WE GO! For starters our closing party has been scheduled for
November 7th
(time to be announced) and we still need ideas on a skit or things to
do to raise money for our
team. This will be our host bar night for this season, so we need to make
it count. Plus we have to
make it fun as well. So think about it. I have one idea, but need some
others on the team to help.
Second. For those who can get to Metropolis on Saturday night at 7 PM
or so, that is where you
need to pay your registration fee. I will be there if you need help. It
is $10.00 per person who
played last season, for those who are starting this season it is $20.00,
the other $10.00 goes to
insurance even though you may have your own it is a league thing and has
to be paid. If you cannot
make the opening party, then you can pay at the field on Sunday morning
BEFORE the game,
otherwise you cannot play. (Not my rules)
OK here is the 1999 Fall schedule. May change, you never know.

10/24/99 at 11 am Field 2 Tampa Eagle vs Metropolis
10/31/99 at 11 am Field 2 Tampa Eagle vs Metroflex Host bar: Al Dantes
11/07/99 Placement week
CLOSING PARTY
I will do what I can to reschedule the 10/17 games of Bear Bust. As you
know, last year
I was not successful. But keep your fingers crossed. The Placement week
games are position
games. 1st place vs 2nd, 3rd vs 4th, 4th vs 6th for both placement weekends.
Games we are
listed second, i.e., Al Dates vs Eagle, we are the home team. We play
each other twice so we
are home and away. Any other questions, just ask. See you on the fields.
Coach Michael
P.S. Just to round it out we have 4 - 9 am games, 4 -10 am games and 2
- 11 am games."

Mike,
Is it too late to request from the League that they don't schedule a game
for
us on Sunday, October 17th (Bear Bust) ?

<<Jim,
Here is some news you may want to spread around to the team since you
have
all the e mail addresses so forward this to everyone if you would.
For starters in 2001 the gay World Series will be in San Fransisco and
right
now, C Rec. teams are not on the agenda, BUT by 2001, C rec teams will
be
accepted into the world series.
There are six teams in the rec. division this year.
Aldantes, Metropolis, TNT, The Brigg, Metroflex and yours truly, The Tampa
Eagle.
The Opening night party is scheduled for Friday Sept. 10th at Metroplis,
my
guess would be 7 or 8 pm. You pay your $10.00 there ($20.00 for new players)
by cash or check. Make sure the check is made out to The Suncoast Softball
League.
The League is planning on EACH team to have some kind of BAR night. We
will
still have the host bars on Sundays, but this is something to raise money
for
the league to be distributed to the teams. BUT, each team must have TWO
( 2 )
people to represent the team in at least 5 out of 7 events in order to
get
any kind of money from the league in return. Depending on our participation
in these events we can be entitled to some portion of the moneys that
were
raised.
DRAG CZAR ANYONE ?!?!?! the league is looking for someone
to be basically a
party planner for the league. If there is anyone on the team that is
interested, let me know and I will help.
Now for some good news and bad news. OK, Bad news first. The times scheduled
for play this year will be 9 AM (yes that's AM as in morning) 10 am and
11
am. Mainly to avoid any people that happen to have tickets to a BUCS game
from not being able to either Play softball or Watch football. The schedule
has not been made up yet, but will be by Sept. 8 (another meeting I have
to
go to).
OK, and now for the GOOD NEWS. The Tampa Eagle has put in a bid for the
Closing Party and guess what ?? We Got it !!!! Yes, We will
be the Host Bar
for the softball leagues closing party !!!! So if ANYONE has some
kind of
suggestions of raising money for the Team or Ideas of some form of
entertainment, games, etc. WHATEVER. We need to start thinking and working
on
them NOW. The Closing party will be in November which is really not to
far
away. So lets make it a good one, if anyone has ideas of a theme or skit
that
we could do. We need to start doing something now. Now that we have earned
the respect of the softball league, we need to maintain it and be part
of it
as well.
That is all for now. Practice on Sunday at the filed on Clark St. at 11
am I
will not be there so do the best you can with those that you have. Batting
practice, fielding etc. I know you will all do well this season !!!
By the way team. BIG KUDOS TO JIM WHICKER !!! He has been
working VERY hard
this season and at the last practice he has GREATLY IMPROVED I AM VERY
PROUD
OF HIM AND HIS HARD WORK !!! Big Hugs to you JIM !!
See ya on the field.

Hi Guys,
Practice was cut short Wednesday due to the weather, but NPR Mike &
I arrived
early & got in some good batting practice. Joe & one of
our new team
members, Bob, never made it out of their car. Welcome to the team

(Now if I could only catch . . . :-) Hey Michael, didn't you
say something
about practice before the games except if the game is scheduled early?
;-)
See ya Sunday guys, be prepared to sweat! Jim
08/17/99: Letter from Jim
It keeps getting better!!! We had a GRRRRREEAT practice
on Sunday, even if
1/4 of the diamond was under water . . . Welcome to the team Brenda!
Most
of us remember Brenda (TNT) from practices and she even played a game
with us
last season. Now, almost everyone is back and ready to win AGAIN!
Joe,
thanks again for loosing the shirt!
Coach Mike SYLVESTER wanted to remind everyone that practice is still
scheduled for this Wednesday, Aug 18th (6-6:30PM) and Sunday, Aug 22
(11:00AM). Check out our web site for a map to the practice field!
At
practice Sunday, Mike talked about just having practice (when the season
starts) on Sundays before the game and not having a practice on Wednesday
evenings.
See ya on the diamond! Jim
Confidential to NPR Mike. STOP HITTIN' THOSE
BALLS OVER THE FENCE!
08/14/99: Registration Fee
The registration fee for this upcoming season is due on
September 12th. Unlike the previous seasons,
the registration fee will not be paid to the coach but directly to the
league. The registration fee is $10.
For newcomers, an additional $10 for insurance is also required. The insurance
fee is a yearly fee,
so if you decide to play next season you will not have to pay for it.
08/13/99: Letter from Jim
Howdy Guys!
I have more E-mail addresses! So some of this will be old news to you
. . .
This is just a reminder that practice is scheduled for Sunday, AUG 15th
around 11:00AM and Wednesday, AUG 18th, around 6:00PM at the park on Clark
St. (off Gandy)
We had a GRRRRRRRRRRREAT practice this past Wednesday, We have a new Tee
to
help with our batting practice, and we met one of our new team members,
Mike,
from New Port Richie. Coach Mike says we're looking real good, we should
place 1st again! We talked about our new uniforms. The Eagle will furnish
us with a Cap and a T-shirt or Tank Top. We unanimously decided that we
liked our Jersey from last season better and would pay the difference
between
the cost of a T-shirt (that The Eagle would pay for) and the cost of the
jersey. We'll contact Frankie at Graphic Traffic for more info on the
cost .
. . Do we want numbers? I hear 69 is taken! We'll have Black shorts.
The season starts on Sept. 12th, there's about 7 C-Rec teams this season
which means we'll probably only have to play each team twice. (League
fee
is $10 and if you didn't play last season, another $10 for insurance is
due
by opening day)
We have about 19 team members this season, but as we all know, not everyone
is able to be at every game, so I'm sure it'll work out.
I still don't have everyone's E-mail address, (I need Coach Mike, Andy,
Guillermo, Bob Stratton, Debbie, Chris, the lady from the other team;
{Brenda?}, and two others that I'm not remembering) so if you have a team
member's E-mail address that I don't, please let me know. We want to make
sure everyone is informed by E-mail and/or phone. I'll make a master list
with everyone's phone number & E-mail address for everybody. Let me
know if
you don't want to be on the list.
See ya Sunday, if not sooner! Jim
08/06/99: Letter from Jim
Howdy Guys!
I spoke with Michael tonight & he told me that the practice that was
tentatively scheduled for this Sunday is not going to happen, there's
a few
guys going to Key West this weekend for "Bears In The Keys."
He said practice is scheduled for Wednesday, AUG 11th & 18th, at the
park on
Clark St. Show up between 6:00PM-6:30PM. Also, practice is scheduled
for
Sunday, AUG 15th around 11:00AM. The season starts on Sept. 12th,
there's
about 7 C-Rec teams this season which means we'll probably only have to
play
each team twice.
We have about 19 team members this season, but as we know not everyone
is
able to be at every game, so I'm sure it'll work out. At least we
won't have
to borrow someone from another team when Jack "oversleeps".
:-) I
don't have everyone's
E-mail address, so if you have a team member's E-mail address that I don't,
please forward the info. We want to make sure everyone is informed
by E-mail
and/or phone.
See ya next Wednesday, if not sooner!
Jim
